Sony released the official trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot, this morning, starring Leslie Jordan, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy and dang, there was a lot of heat on the internets! Lots of opinions and criticisms, but I’ll get to that in just a moment.
The trailer opens on a shot a of New York and we are reminded that “30 years ago, four scientists saved New York. This summer a new team will answer the call”
The internet then lost their minds, and mostly, not in a good way. There was a lot of:
“but, Winston wasn’t a scientist”
“it doesn’t have the same tone”
“These jokes are corny”
“this reboot is going to ruin my childhood!”
“women, really? I don’t need to be pandered too”
Wah, wah, wah! It’s a freakin’ trailer everyone! Settle down. Gail Simone posted a tweet that I stand behind and she knows everything:
Okay. I thought the Ghostbusters trailer was SPOT-ON, except I hope Leslie Jones gets to shine and be smart, too. Otherwise, KILLER.

A lot of people are upset about the Leslie Jones character being the streetwise, MTA agent, which I get. My hope is that this character is actually someone who is confident and self-sufficient and those qualities are her strength! Not everyone possesses those qualities and that would be a huge inspiration to a lot of kids who will be watching this movie. I have faith in Leslie and director, Paul Feig, to take better care of the character.
Here’s the thing, four women are starring in a fun scifi/paranormal action movie! Get it together, watch the movie or don’t. But pause before you criticize without all of the information.
I can’t wait. I’ll be there opening day and probably cosplaying as a Ghostbuster, in the future!
Ghostbusters will be in theaters July 15th, 2016!
