2019 isn’t here yet, but we got to see a glimpse of it in 1982. 2049 is coming, and we got our first look today with the Blade Runner 2049 official full length trailer.
In a live screening and Q&A Monday morning, Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, and director Dennis Villeneuve commented on the film and their experiences with the original. Gosling said of Ridley Scott‘s Blade Runner, “The first film made me question what it meant to be a human being,”. This, according to Variety.
Could it be that this film, then, will make us question what it is to be a replicant? The trailer seems to suggest that that might be true.

First of all, it gives us all of the visuals that any fan of Blade Runner wants to see. We see the cramped city streets, amazing costumes, bigger and better holograms, action, action, action and Atari. Yes. But, the dialogue featured in the trailer and what it might tell us about the story is the really exciting part. Jared Leto‘s character says “Every civilization was built off the back of a disposable workforce. But, I can only make so many.” It seems he’s birthing replicants, and in a very dramatically disturbing way.
Robin Wright‘s character refers to a wall that separates us, and what happens when that wall comes down. She also refers to war. In the middle of it all, a new cop, K, finds Deckard hiding out in his t-shirt in the ruins of a former time. It’s all about to go down, and I can’t wait!!!
Blade Runner 2049 will be in theaters October 6th. I’ll be watching this trailer about a million times before then. I’m ready.
