We’ve known since December that Sonequa Martin-Green had been cast as the lead in CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery. We knew that she would be the central character on whose point of view the series would focus on which is quite interesting since we’ve only seen the many Star Trek series from the Captain’s POV. Here’s the interesting part of the story. Her name and rank have changed.

Originally it was announced that her character’s name would be Lt. Commander Rainsford but then this was tweeted:

Congrats on the promotion and I like “Michael” as a first name, it raises a lot of questions. It’s intriguing because so much has gone on with this property since Bryan Fuller’s exit to the fantastic casting of the crew and now the name change for Martin-Green. All of this information is too much. The anticipation is growing and I really hope we get the series in September as the rumors have stated.
