Welcome to Tavern Talk Thursday! We are expanding! What started as a column dedicated to chatting with members of the TTRPG community is growing to talk about all things TTRPG. We aim to continue sharing all the things we love about the community and all the content within. So, consider this a little peek into our favorite worlds and creators as we explore everything we love.

Another month of 2024 has arrived, and it’s time for us to take a new look at TTRPG Kickstarters, which you should be keeping an eye on. Fall and fantasy go hand in hand, like pumpkin spice and almost everything. And now is the best time to dive into a new fantasy world. Or maybe it’s time to head into outer space and fall in love. No matter what, we have something for everyone to enjoy.

October Kickstarters to Keep an Eye On

Moss, Stone & Steel

Moss, Stone & Steel Kickstarter

Kicking off this month’s list is Ramsay McGregor’s Moss, Stone & Steel. The goal behind the TTRPG is to revitalize the mythology and stories of old medieval and ancient times. By doing that, players can fully immerse themselves in tales of old. It uses a simple dice system mixed with a trait-based character builder. It promises to be a new, innovative TTRPG for longtime fantasy fans and an excellent diving-in point for new ones.

Dragon Town and the Darkness Below

Next on our TTRPG Kickstarter list is JP Coovert’s Dragon Town and the Darkness Below. Led by the distinguished halfling, Flik SIlverpen, players will dive into this system-neutral TTRPG that is light in tone but heavy in danger. After the mayor goes missing, it is up to a group of adventurers to save the day. This is an excellent addition to every player’s shelf and a great place for new players to explore.

Continue exploring towns with mysteries with Alex Edwards’ The Town Where Nothing Goes Wrong. The one-shot features an overarching mystery, three hilarious plot lines and many vivid characters. It’s system-agnostic, making it a great addition to any GM’s arsenal. But it also works as a great rainy-day adventure for friends and family. We also suggest checking it out for new GMs looking for a fun adventure to play out.

Violet Core

Our final TTRPG Kickstarter to watch in October is Sarah Carapace’s Violet Core. This is described as a romantic high-speed sapphic mecha TTRPG, and we couldn’t be more excited. It has a 1990s-inspired aesthetic with influences from Grunge, Riot Grrrl and more. It features unique systems for character building, combat and even romance. The connection system focuses on growth and development tied to their relationships with other pilots. It’s exciting and edgy and is exactly what we need.
