Lucasfilm and Disney Plus have finally given Star Wars fans a better look at the new Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series starring Ewan McGregor. He is reprising his role after 17 years as the titular character. The streaming service has released a teaser trailer documenting the former Jedi’s life stuck inside four walls and sent inside forever in the caves on Tatooine as he avoids the Empire and protects a young Luke Skywalker.

Premiering on May 25, 2022, Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice. We had to watch as Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The Disney Plus series also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.
The trailer begins with a large orchestral score giving way to the Empire’s Grand Inquisitor, saying, “The key to hunting Jedi is patience.” The last time fans saw the Grand Inquisitor was in Star Wars: Rebels, with a follow-up appearance in a Marvel Comics’ Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith storyline. Darth Vader tasks the Pau’an male to hunt down any surviving Jedi Knights, including Kanan Jarrus and his Padawan Ezra Bridger, with the help of his Inquisitors.
In addition to McGregor and Christensen, joining the cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ are Moses Ingram as Inquisitor Reva, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, Bonnie Piesse, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Indira Varma. Plus, Joel Edgerton is taking over the role of Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker’s uncle.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Chow, McGregor and Joby Harold.
