Yes, I’m screaming in my chair, too. According to THR, Lucasfilm are developing a live-action Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. According to the site, Stephen Daldry is in talks to take the director’s chair for the upcoming film. It’s real. It’s happening.
Okay, taking a breather, let’s get to the facts. Currently, there is no script. The deal with Daldry to direct has not been finalized and Lucasfilm has not made a statement regarding the film. But, with this reporting of news, we now know that an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off film is in development from Lucasfilm. Earlier this year, fans were anticipating an announcement from Lucasfilm yet it did not come. Both at Star Wars Celebration Orlando and D23, there had been no word.
While some of the fandom would like new stories with new characters, others would like to see the characters we love, explored further. On a personal note, Obi-Wan Kenobi is my favorite so I am Team Kenobi all the way. In addition to the very, very early talks on this film, it is not currently known if Ewan McGregor will return to play the character. But I will hope to the double suns of Tatooine that we will have him return.
