Star Wars fans, it’s a happy Monday for us all! Disney revealed via the official Star Wars Twitter account that 10 new cast members have been added to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series roster! Can you feel the excitement lingering in the air?
Now, we know from December’s Disney Investor Day that Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role as Darth Vader from the Star Wars prequels. Star Ewan McGregor confirmed his return as the titular character Obi-Wan Kenobi in August of 2019.
So, who else will be traveling to a galaxy far, far away alongside McGregor and Christensen? Joel Edgerton, Indira Varma, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, Bonnie Piesse, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Deborah Chow will be at the helm with Joby Harold serving as the series writer.
According to Variety, Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place a decade after the harrowing events in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Wherein “Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi joins a slew of Disney Plus properties that are currently in the works. There’s the Cassian Andor series entitled Andor as well as the Ahsoka Tano show Ahsoka. Additionally, The Mandalorian spin-off The Book of Boba Fett and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic. Animated outing Star Wars: The Bad Batch is slated to premiere on May 4.
As per Disney’s usual, we don’t know anything about Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s character list beyond the actors’ names. However, Variety surmises (as well as the rest of the internet) that Edgerton could be portraying Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker’s uncle. It would certainly be an interesting way to include Star Wars‘ most famous hero. Either way, this cast has me hyped!
Production on the series is slated to begin in April. There’s no release date as of yet. You can check out the tweet announcing the new cast additions for Obi-Wan Kenobi below.
