During NYCC 2022, the cast of The Wheel of Time joined showrunner Rafe Judkins on stage to discuss the upcoming second season. This is the first time the series has had a live and in-person convention panel. Just knowing this brought even higher excitement levels. They took the time to discuss the second season of Prime Video’s adaptation of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson‘s beloved novels and what we can expect to see.
The Wheel of Time panel kicked off with Rosamund Pike diving into where Moiraine’s story is heading in season two. Then, moderator Damien Holbrook was joined on stage by Judkins, Daniel Henney (Lan), Madeleine Madden (Eqwene) and Marcus Rutherford (Perrin). Later on in the panel, they were joined by Donal Finn, who is taking over the role of Mat in season two, Ceara Coveney, who portrays Elayne Trakand and Kate Fleetwood, who plays Liandrin Sedia.

Holbrook asked some incredible questions surrounding how some of the major events in season one of The Wheel of Time will directly affect season two. Most notable was the relationship between Lan and Moiraine. Henney shared that her loss of power “affects me directly because of their bond, which they do not have at this point, her being cut off from the Source. So it’s like any catastrophic moment that comes into your personal life.” He even hinted that Lan has someone to help comfort him through this. Oh, Nynaeve (Zoë Robins).

We also got a bit about Egwene’s character growth and Perrin’s hero’s journey that will take place during season two. Season one did such a terrific job setting up the world, story and characters. And now, in season two, we will be able to see them breathe. They will grow and come to terms with the world around them. Fans in attendance were given a glimpse at a clip from season two. It featured Mat and Liandrin Sedai interacting in a cell at the White Tower. They then saw a clip of Alayne and Egwene.

While we didn’t get the chance to see their conversation, Prime Video did share the second clip shown during the panel on social media and YouTube. It gives a very quick (blink and you will definitely miss a moment) recap of season one and a sneak peek of The Wheel of Time season two. Judkins shared that “people who have read the books, they see the path in front of each of the characters. And in season 2, we’re seeing those paths on the screen.”
And while the teaser for The Wheel of Time season 2 might be short, it sure does pack a punch. It’s clear that tensions are heightened, showing off just how high the stakes are compared to the first season. And those stakes were extremely high. We still do not have a release date for the second season, but our hopes are high that it will release in 2023. Judkins also shared that season 3 is already in the early stages, so hopefully, we will see that soon after.
