During NYCC 2022, fans were finally given our first look at Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo’s The Super Mario Bros Movie. The upcoming film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michel Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. We’ve been waiting so long just to hear the actors and actresses in their roles. And we certainly have some feelings.

The teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros Movie looks terrific. The animation style looks incredible for an animated film. The teaser opens with a battle between Bowser (Jack Black) going to war against King Penguin (Khary Payton). Things seem to be going well for the penguins until Bowser reminds us about all those incredibly fiery skills he has. And finally, Bowser has his hands on a Super Star.

And who is going to stop him? None other than Mario (Chris Pratt)! This is the moment fans have been waiting for. When we finally hear what Pratt has decided to do regarding the iconic character’s voice for The Super Mario Bros Movie. And I have to say, I don’t hate it. Having grown up with Charles Martinet voicing Mario, I have grown used to a particular portrayal. But, with that being said, this will take some getting used to, but we are starting off on the right foot. We also need to hear more to really judge just how good he does.

Pratt, Black and Payton are joined in The Super Mario Bros Movie by Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), Fred Armisen (Cranky Kong), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) and Sebastian Maniscalco (Spike).

The Super Mario Bros Movie is set to hit theaters on April 7, 2023. We’ve dropped the teaser trailer down below. What do you think of Pratt’s voice? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
