Something’s going down in the up, that’s for sure. On Friday, October 7, 2022, the creative minds and cast of Prime Video’s Good Omens took NYCC 2022 by storm for a fun-filled panel brimming with behind-the-scenes stories, Season 2 updates, first looks and more. Ashley-Ray Harris moderated the proceedings.

Participating from the Good Omens side was co-creator/co-showrunner Neil Gaiman (Gaiman co-wrote the book the show is based on with the late Terry Pratchett), co-showrunner/director Douglas Mackinnon and executive producer Rob Wilkins. The cast included Nina Sosanya, Maggie Service and Quelin Sepulveda.

We learned that Nina and Maggie, who played Sister Mary Loquacious and Sister Theresa Garrulous in Season 1, respectively, will return for Season 2 in new roles. Nina will portray Nina, a coffee shop owner whose establishment is across the street from Aziraphale’s bookshop in Soho. Said shop is called “Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death.” Maggie will play Maggie, who runs the record store next door to Aziraphale’s place.

Quelin disclosed some tidbits about her character, which Neil wrote specifically for the show. We’ll see her play Muriel, a legitimately pure-hearted and sweet angel who embarks on her first trip to Earth. Gaiman touched on more casting shakeups, including Shelley Conn, who now portrays Beelzebub in place of Anna Maxwell Martin. Additionally, he revealed Miranda Richardson would slip into a new character as Madame Tracy’s story concluded in Season 1. She’ll play Shax; a formidable demon meant to replace Crowley on Earth.

Gaiman, Mackinnon and Wilkins teased the audience at NYCC 2022 with a few hints regarding Season 2. It’s six episodes long, each clocking in at roughly 45 minutes. There will be some love stories, and we’ll learn a lot about Jane Austen that we didn’t know before. We’ll see more of Heaven and Hell, too.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Good Omens panel without the stars themselves. Michael Sheen (Aziraphale) appeared on Zoom, thinking he was the only one asked to appear. However, his dreams were dashed when David Tennant (Crowley) made his grand Zoom entrance, also under the same impression. Lastly, Jon Hamm (Gabriel) Zoomed in, believing he would connect the most with Americans. The trio answered fan questions.

While watching this part, I could hear what sounded like David Tennant’s youngest child off-camera calling for him. Tennant sweetly turned to acknowledge them and called them “Bubba.” I melted.

The panel playfully stoked the fires of Sheen and Tennant’s “rivalry,” which I loved. Besides all that goodness, the NYCC 2022 panel unveiled first-look images of the aforementioned new characters and a Season 2 clip. Unfortunately, said clip wasn’t available to digital ticket holders like me.

However, Gaiman described the clip before the panel attendees watched it. Nina’s love life is in shambles, and she receives passive-aggressive texts from her boyfriend, Lindsey. Mrs. Sandwich (Donna Preston) is present in the scene, as are Muriel, Aziraphale and Crowley.

The panel wrapped with an update regarding the Season 2 premiere date. We can expect Good Omens to return in Summer 2023 on Prime Video. Check out the official poster and first-look photos below.
