Crunchyroll and Adult Swim finished day one of NYCC 2021 with news about the upcoming animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus. This has been one of our highly anticipated series since its announcement back in 2018. The panel included Shinji Aramaki (co-director), Kenji Kamiyama (co-director), Joseph Chou (executive producer) and Maurice Conti. They revealed a brand new trailer, key art and the official release date!

Blade Runner: Black Lotus is set in 2032 Los Angeles, where a young woman wakes up with no memories. But she does happen to possess some pretty deadly skills. The only clues to her mysterious past are a locked data device and a tattoo of a black lotus. She must now put the pieces back together, hunt down the people responsible for her brutal and bloody past and find the truth of her lost identity.

The trailer for Blade Runner: Black Lotus gives us a much more chill look into the series. Between the synth-tinged music and slow pace of the beginning of the trailer, it almost seems like an entirely different show. However, as things start to heat up, we can see the shift in Elle’s demeanor. This really helps nail down the idea that as she continues to piece together her past, it will change who she is in the present. I stand by my past statement that Elle is really shaping up to be a badass and memorable character within the Blade Runner franchise.

Aside from the new trailer, the best news of the day is that Blade Runner: Black Lotus will drop on Crunchy Roll and Adult Swim on November 13, 2021, with two back-to-back episodes! We’ve linked the trailer down below for your enjoyment! What do you think of this new installment to the Blade Runner franchise? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
