Kate Mulgrew is reprising her role as Kathryn Janeway in the new Star Trek: Prodigy.

During the CBS All Access Star Trek virtual panel for NYCC 2020, we got our first casting news for Star Trek: Prodigy. Kate Mulgrew announced during the panel that she will be reprising her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway. The animated series was announced back in January of 2019 by executive producer Alex Kurtzman. The series will air on Nickelodeon sometime in 2021. It will be directed by Ben Hibon with Kevin and David Hageman working as writers.

Mulgrew shared her excitement with fans during the Star Trek virtual panel stating, “To be at the helm again is going to be deeply gratifying in a new way for me.” We are all beyond excited to see her reprise Captain Janeway, even if it is in CGI. It will be interesting to see what kind of story they bring us in Star Trek: Prodigy. Mulgrew is the first of many casting news items I am sure we are going to see over the next few months. But who else will be returning? That we aren’t quite sure.

Star Trek: Prodigy will follow a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation. But other than that small bit of information, we don’t know much else. With it releasing next year, we can expect to hear more over the next few months. We might even get a trailer sometime in the near future. But until then, we just get to be excited that Mulgrew is back!

Star Trek: Prodigy is set to release in 2021 on Nickelodeon. Who else would you like to see make a return to the franchise? Let us know in the comments and on social media!
