Show creators Josh Boone and Benjamin Cavell did not intend for The Stand to mirror the current state of the world in any way. But that’s what’s happened … sort of. Based on the novel by Stephen King, The Stand is a post-apocalyptic tale about a pandemic that wipes out 99 percent of humanity. The survivors are called by a higher power to serve in a war between good and evil. Mother Abigail Freemantle gathers survivors who are deemed good. The trailer shows some of that gathering in Boulder, CO. But the survivors all dream of a dark man.
Alexander Skarsgård plays Randall Flagg, the opposite of Mother Abigail. He wants to control the world. He basically represents the seven deadly sins, and he uses whatever means necessary to tempt Abigail’s camp to join him. Some give in to temptation, but most of Abigail’s people are strong. They decide the time has come to make a “Stand” against evil.
The Stand also stars Odessa Young, Heather Graham, Jovan Adepo, James Marsden, Owen Teague, Greg Kinnear, Amber Heard, Katherine McNamara Henry Zaga, Brad William Henke and Irene Bedard.
