The Walking Dead: World Beyond Debuts in Spring 2020

The Walking Dead universe expands a little in 2020 with the debut of a new spin off.  The Untitled Walking Dead series, dubbed TWD3 cast and creators were on hand at NYCC to talk about the upcoming series.

Here’s what we know so far.  TWD3 series features a young cast. They have basically grown up in the apocalypse, so they haven’t seen much of the world and are curious. this group of young people set out to discover what else the world has to offer.

The panel consists of Scott Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Matt Negrete, Alexa Mansour, Aliyah Royale, Nicholas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Nico Tortorella, and Annet Mahendru.

Gimple confirms this show takes place about ten years into the zombie apocalypse.  And they refer to the dead as ’empties.’ That’s a new one. And this communities is one of the communities set up by the helicopter people.  Gimple confirmed the three circles on the helicopter represent three different communities that are bound together.

Each of the cast members got a chance to describe their characters. Royale plays Iris and Monsour plays Hope. They are essentially leads of the series, but the supporting cast is just as interesting.  They are young and have grown up with TWD. So stepping into their roles was easy.  .

Their weapons will be unlike anything we’ve seen before.  Gimple considers the weapons ‘hybrids’ and meant to deal with empties.  I think we may have seen something like that in Fear the Walking Dead 505, when Althea (Maggie Grace) met someone from these communities..

Gimple describes this show as a whole new mythology to the TWD universe, but one we’ve seen a glimpse of in the other two series.   Luckily, they brought a trailer to show what that world looks like.

In the TWD3 trailer, the community looks like a lot like the world we live in today.  There are over 9,000 people in that community and they are thriving.  But for Iris (Royale) and Hope (Mansour), it’s not enough.   Hope wants to see the world before it all ends again.  Hope and her friends sneak out of their community in search of adventure in the big open world.  And that literally makes Iris sick.

Within the scenes of a normality there are some scenes of fear.  It looks like it may be a flashback or something to when the ’empties’ attacked the community.   So they know the fear of dying via walker bite.  Hope and Iris want to find their father who is out in the world helping other communities to thrive…or so they think.  Nothing is really ever that simple in the The Walking Dead universe. Check out the trailer below.

The Untitled Walking Dead series will debut in Spring 2020 on AMC.
