My man! Today, we got to see footage from the upcoming DC film Aquaman thanks to NYCC 2018. 5 minutes of it in fact. The extended look gave us a better look at Atlantis, their culture and just how childish Arthur Curry’s (Jason Momoa) humor is going to be. Are you ready to dive deep?

We see that Arthur and Mera (Amber Heard) have been traveling the Sahara desert. The journey’s been long but worth it as they discover the hidden caverns of Atlantis. Yes, all the way out in the desert. We then get to see how they play off one another, with Arthur being boorish and Mera solving the problems. With their teamwork, they hear an important message from an important former king (Graham McTavish) – the power of Atlantis resides in his Trident. Should anyone get their hands on it, the results would be catastrophic. With the clock ticking, they need to find a way to keep it away from not only King Orm aka Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) but the vengeful pirate Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) as well.

Holy crap! The visuals are incredible! I’m floored! Everything is a massive scale and beautifully colored. If nothing else, this is going to be a really pretty movie to look at. The action, outside of the giant CGI battle of sea monsters, looks pulse pounding (as they want us to feel by adding heartbeats). This is going to be an action-adventure film that some are not gonna want to miss. And that ending shot! He’s gonna be wearing the classic suit – I’m pretty pumped about that. I also like that they seemingly made the armor even more special by having it be the armor of the first ruler of Atlantis. And Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) fighting like a bada**? Yes! I’m almost certain that this is the footage that played for fans during SDCC this year.

I do have to add though, I’m pretty disappointed how childish Arthur seems. “I could’ve peed on it”. Come on now, you’re in your 30s, at least late 20s. You’re telling me you’re going to pee on the ancient Atlantean artifact to make it work? He’s also perpetually excited by things – but that seems to be more of an influence from Momoa’s energy more than anything. So, we won’t have a stoic hero, but a rough-housing wild man that does heroic things. Maybe it will work, but I’m fairly turned off to it myself. Let’s just hope the rest of the script has better humor than pee jokes.

You need to check out the extended look (and a cool poster) below and let us know what you think. Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more NYCC updates and more from the world of DC.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king. The film also stars Amber Heard (“Justice League,” “Magic Mike XXL”) as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Platoon,” “Spider-Man 2”) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson (“The Conjuring” films, “Watchmen”) as Orm/Ocean Master, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables” films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Netflix’s “The Get Down”) as the vengeful Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Lion”) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna; as well as Ludi Lin (“Power Rangers”) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando; and Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,” “Green Lantern”) as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.
