This episode of NOS4A2 is told from two perspectives: “Bruce Wayne McQueen” and his mother. These perspectives will be combined in this recap.

Vic (Ashleigh Cummings) and Wayne (Jason David) are hiding from Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto) and Bing Partridge (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson). Charlie has been communicating with Wayne in his dreams, though. Last week, Wayne told Charlie they are at Chris’ (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) lake house.

Bruce Wayne McQueen wasn’t breathing when he was born. Vic freaked out while the nurses and doctors worked to get his breathing started. Maybe that’s why she’s so protective of him now. So when he tells Lou (Jonathan Langdon) that Charlie knows where they are, Wayne knows he’s messed up. Lou assures him that they’re going to be okay. He knows Wayne is a tough kid, just like his mom.

A couple of episodes ago, Charlie was looking for someone called The Hour Glass. His real name is Jonathan Beckett (Paul Schneider). Beckett arrives at the lake house, and the FBI agents stop him. He says he got lost and asks for a minute of their time. They agree to help, and he tells them to go to the house and kill everyone inside. Beckett raises his hands to reveal a small hourglass. He turns it over and the agents are under his spell. His last instruction is to spare the child.

Chris loads his guns, saying he’s going to talk to the feds to prepare for Bing’s arrival. Lou tries to tell him they won’t be enough to stop Bing. Chris thinks he’s crazy, one guy against four. Lou tells him about Charlie Manx coming back to life and how he talked to Wayne in his dreams. He says Vic is the only person who can stop Manx. She’s more powerful than any of them know. The feds pull up, and Chris goes outside to talk to them.

Wayne watches him walk outside and one of the agents shoots Chris in the leg. Lou turns off the lights and blocks the front door. Chris is able to hide in front of his truck. The hourglass runs out of sand, and the second agent kills himself. Wayne smells something like cookies. They hear gas hissing, and Lou knows it’s Bing Partridge. He gets Wayne out of the house. They run to the back of the house, and Bing grabs Lou. He knocks him out with the gas.

Wayne runs away and Bing chases him. When Bing catches Wayne, the boy bites him. Bing picks up Wayne and threatens to hurt him. Charlie stops him, telling Bing to bring the boy to him. Bing takes Wayne to the Wraith and puts him in the car. Charlie greets the boys, saying his dreams are about to come true.

Vic returns to the woods near the house. She hides her bike and heads for the house. She finds Lou and wakes him up. He says the name Bing and gives her the detonator. She runs to the gates and sees the Wraith. Vic screams at Charlie to let Wayne go, but Manx shuts the car door.

Charlie gets in the car and starts to drive towards her. Wayne is screaming in the car and watches Vic go flying through the air when the Wraith hits her. Bing tells Wayne to be quiet, annoyed by the boy. Wayne tells Charlie not to hurt his mom. Charlie tells Bing to put Wayne down for a nap. He doesn’t want the boy to see what comes next. Bing wants to have some fun with Vic, too, but Charlie tells him to take care of Wayne and he’ll have all the fun he can handle in Christmasland.

Vic sees memories of Wayne as she wakes up. She’s hurt and can feel Charlie hitting her with a small hammer. Vic tries to get up and Charlie hits her more. He tells her to stay down and listen. All Vic can hear is the memories of Wayne and when he said her jacket is her armor.

Wayne is in the car, banging and yelling for his mom as Charlie continues to hit Vic with the hammer. Bing threatens to shoot Wayne if he doesn’t be quiet. Then he threatens to bite him back. Wayne says Charlie would get mad if Bing hurt him. Bing puts on his gas mask and turns on the gas for Wayne. He sees memories of his mom, the same way she sees memories of him.

When it’s clear that Vic won’t stay down, Charlie says she’s through galavanting. Wayne is with him now. She nearly stole his children from him and now he claims hers. He wants to hear her say thanks for saving the boy. Charlie tries to hit Vic again and she rolls over to kick him. He drops the hammer and Vic picks it up and says, “Thank you.” She hits him in the face and knocks him down. Vic proceeds to beat up the car, causing Charlie more pain. She looks inside the car and sees Bing in the front seat with his gas mask on.

Vic swims to a raft in the middle of the lake. She comes up for air and hears Charlie and Bing yelling at her for running. She looks around the corner and sees Lou run by. He’s going after Wayne in the car. Wayne tries to jump into the front seat, but the Wraith won’t let him. He tries to text Lou, but nothing is going through. Lou shows up with an ax and starts hitting the windows. He can’t break the back seat windows, but he cracks the windows in the front.

Vic swims to the dock and comes up under Bing. He says they aren’t leaving until they finish what they started. He asks if she remembers their time in the House of Sleep. Bing thinks he has a lot to teach Vic about being a good mommy. He says Wayne is a naughty boy, too, but Mr. Manx will teach him how to be good.

Charlie walks up behind Lou. Wayne tries to warn him, but Lou can’t hear him. Charlie grabs Lou’s neck and slams his head against the car, knocking him out. Charlie says Lou is coming with them to Christmasland. Vic can see the whole thing from the dock and starts to cry for Lou. Charlie returns to the dock to let Vic know that he’s taking her boyfriend and his children will feast on him for weeks.

Vic hears gunshots and a thump on the dock. She sees blood and moves to see what’s happening. Chris gets up and shoots Bing. He turns to go after Manx, but Charlie runs to the Wraith. Bing goes after Chris, and Vic gets out of the water. Bing stops. Charlie leaves him behind. So he turns and runs into the woods while Chris continues to shoot at the Wraith. Vic runs after them and stops at the gates.

Wayne sees her run after him and asks Charlie to stop the car. Charlie says she’s not worth it. Wayne doesn’t like that Charlie hurt his family. Charlie says normally he wouldn’t allow a child to witness such violence, but his mother left him no choice but to defend himself and Wayne.

Charlie blames Vic for keeping him from his children. He says they were starving and he heard them calling to him. Wayne can’t understand what it’s like to know your children need you and you can’t help them. He will meet the children soon in Christmasland.

Wayne says he doesn’t want to go to Christmasland. Charlie laughs at such an unbelievable statement. He knows it’s what Wayne wants deep in his heart and he’s made the right choice. Charlie says Wayne wants a safe home free from drinking and violence. It’s what every child deserves. Wayne will be safe and sound in Christmasland. And Charlie won’t disappoint him like his mother does. While he’s talking Wayne realizes the car is driving itself.

Wayne sees Vic riding behind them. Vic catches up to the Wraith and starts shooting at it. Charlie does his best to run her off the road, but she is able to maintain her bike and the gun. Charlie hits the brakes, and Vic keeps going.

A white SUV, driven by The Hour Glass, hits Vic from the side, throwing her bike across the street. Vic rolls off the bike, and the SUV keeps going. Wayne sees the whole thing. When the Wraith drives past, he asks if she’s dead. Charlie says his mother can’t hurt him anymore thanks to The Hour Glass man.

Vic, Lou and Chris are taken to the emergency room. Vic is in and out of consciousness, seeing more memories of Wayne. Chris smiles at her as she passes by and looks at him. They roll Vic next to Lou, and he’s unconscious. She starts crying, asking for Wayne, when Linda (Virginia Kull) shows up. Linda holds Vic while she cries for Wayne.
