Big news came out of Nintendo Direct’s news update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario Bros fans. This year Nintendo is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is taking up the mantle to celebrate its achievement. On February 25, an Animal Crossing update will allow fans to purchase Super Mario items, such as clothing and classic furnishings from the game, in the Nook Shopping store with their hard-earned bells.
The cosmetic items include classic Mario, Wario, and Luigi hats, overalls, mustaches and Princess Peach wear. The build purchases include items such as the classic 1-UP Mushroom, coins and the most useful item of all time: the Warp Pipes. According to Nintendo Direct, you can place two of these items on your island to help you and your friends get from one end of the island to the other without having to cross bridges, use your pole-vaulting skills or climb ladders. Fans can purchase the items starting March 1 and can recreate the Super Mario worlds on their islands if they so choose.
The most recent update included the Mardi Gras “Festivale” event that launched on February 15. Characters were able to buy items and reactions related to the celebrations. The sale lasted from February 1 to the 15 and the event ended with Pave the peacock dancing across the island. There were also tasks or quests you could complete to receive special prizes. You can still time travel to buy the special items from the event, but you cannot partake in the jubilations until they occur next year around the same time.
No word yet if players who miss this event will have to time travel to get their Super Mario items during this special 35th-anniversary update. Regardless, we can’t wait to see what islands we’ll encounter as a result of this very special crossover update!
