Nintendo announced today that Universal theme parks will bring their games to life in interactive and immersive experiences.

Universal has been hitting it out of the park (uh, no pun intended) in recent years.  It’s no secret all three Wizarding Worlds are doing amazing, most parks are getting updates and maintenance of some sort.  Let’s also not forget, Universal Orlando had a partnership with Marvel, before Disney purchased them.  But their Islands of Adventure still benefit from Marvel movie mania.  Now they will add Nintendo to the list of partnerships.

  • Nintendo-themed areas are coming to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
  • These will be expansive, immersive and interactive. They will be highly themed and authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.
  • Guests will feel as if they are playing inside their favorite games – this time in real life.
  • There will be something for everyone – regardless of their age or gaming experience level.
  • Planning and creative work on these areas is well underway; they will open separately over the next several years.

It will be interesting to see just where they go with this and how each park integrates the world of Nintendo.  Hollywood is limited by space, Orlando has plenty of room to grow.  I’ve never been to Japan so can’t speak on if they are limited on land like Hollywood or lots of land like Orlando.  I imagine the available space will dictate what happens in each park.  Which is what we’ve seen with the each of the Wizarding Worlds.

Honestly, I want Mario Brothers levels, maybe obstacle courses, and/or roller coasters.  Legend of Zelda themed everything!  Give me more Zelda!  An arcade would also make a ton of sense.  I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s imagination is going wild.

Each Universal theme park will announce details of its specific Nintendo areas. The first such announcement will come soon. In the meantime, watch the adorable and multi-lingual announcement video.
