Fans were devastated when the shutdown of Blue Sky Studios canceled the Nimona adaptation. But there’s good news! Netflix picked up the project, with Deadline and author ND Stevenson breaking the news and announcing the cast.

Nimona tells the story of the Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed), a former hero framed for a crime he didn’t commit and doomed to a life of villainy. Only Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shape-shifting, bloodthirsty teen, might be able to help him. Leading the fight against Ballister is the golden knight Ambrosius Goldenloin (Eugene Lee Yang); it’s immediately clear that the two share a truly complicated past.
Moretz last starred in Hulu’s Mother/Android and appears next in the Amazon sci-fi series The Peripheral. Ahmed recently won an Oscar with director Aneil Karia for The Long Goodbye, a live-action short he co-wrote and starred in. Yang is best known as part of The Try Guys Youtube channel, but fans can also spot him in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the upcoming movie Spring Bloom.
Stevenson tweeted their excitement for the Nimona resurrection earlier today:
Nimona is scheduled for a 2023 release on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates as we get them!
