Prime Video dropped the first trailer for its new series Night Sky, starring Academy Award-winner Sissy Spacek as Irene York and Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons as Franklin York. The new Amazon sci-fi drama is Castle Rock meets First Contact meets The Day the Earth Stood Still — I’m here for it; there really should be more Stephen King-esque science fiction.
According to Deadline, the series was initially called Lightyears (but I think we can all guess why that changed) and starred Ed O’Neill instead of Simmons in the role of Franklin York. Alongside Spacek and Simmons, Night Sky also stars Kiah McKirnan (Mare of Easttown) as Denise York, Chai Hansen (Mako Mermaids) as Jude, and Julieta Zylberberg (Wild Tales), Rocío Hernández and Adam Bartley (This Is Us).

The full description of the Night Sky series from Amazon Studios reads as follows:
Spanning space and time, Night Sky follows Irene (Sissy Spacek) and Franklin York (J.K. Simmons), a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Chai Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended … and the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.
The Night Sky series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and Legendary Television (Carnival Row, Paper Girls). Holden Miller writes and co-executive produces the series, and serving as showrunner and executive producer is Daniel C. Connolly. Executive producing are Mosaic’s Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen, with Emmy- and BAFTA Award-winner Philip Martin (The Crown).
Night Sky premieres on May 20 on Prime Video. Watch the trailer below!
