The Night of the Living Dead universe is getting an expansion. According to a report from Deadline, a scripted podcast called The Dead is joining the original 1968 film and each sequel and spinoff to bring more zombie stories to life.

This new podcast series will contain a total of 24 episodes, though the plots are not yet known. George Romero directed and co-wrote the original film, and now his foundation, the George A. Romero Foundation, is co-producing along with Cinedigm-backed Bloody Disgusting. According to Deadline, writers will go through an application process from which a team is chosen by the George A. Romero Foundation. The assembled scribes will work with the Bloody Disgusting team on the scripts.

While fans do not yet know what the stories for The Dead will contain, we do know that they will be set in the same world as Night of the Living Dead. In the original story, a group trapped in a farmhouse is under attack from the living dead. Each sequel and spinoff followed a different character or situation, sometimes adding new characters and locations. It is safe to assume that the tradition will continue with this new addition.

No matter what the stories contain, they are sure to be full of classic horror scares and entertaining plots.

Whatever The Dead may bring, Geek Girl Authority will be here to bring you all of the latest information. Let us know in the comments if you are looking forward to this new horror podcast.
