Well this is a nice bit of news. Recently it was announced that a J.R.R. Tolkien biopic was in the works between Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment simply titled Tolkien. According to Deadline, we may have our new lead. Nicholas Hoult is currently in talks to star as the prolific writer.

While still in early negotiations, apparently Hoult is the top choice for the part. The project has been in development since 2013 and is finally gaining traction. The film will be helmed by Finnish director Dome Karukoski. The film’s script was written by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford.

The biopic will focus on Tolkien in his younger life as he finds himself among his classmates. He’ll experience friendship, love and of course artistic expression. We’ll also follow him as a soldier after World War I breaks out and he joins the British Armed Forces. And of course, we’ll see him beginning two of the works that has made him the icon he is today.

While I’m typically not a fan of biopics, I may make an exception for this. Not just because I love Middle Earth, but I also want to see his love story played out. She was the Luthien to his Beren and loved him despite him being penniless. She seemed to be his world and frankly, I would enjoy seeing that. Plus, who doesn’t want more Tolkien in any capacity?

What do you think of the potential casting? Would you like to see Hoult or do you have someone else in mind? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more Tolkien news!
