New York Comic Con 2015 X-Files Panel!

Uber-Fan, comedian and actor, Kumail Nanjiani, moderated the X-Files panel at New York Comic Con and it was a joy! I generally post a “top 5 favorite moments” but the panel is short enough you can watch the whole thing and I think you should.

Kumail (Silicon Valley, Portlandia) is such a big fan, he hosts his own podcast dedicated solely to The X-Files, he also got to play a small role in the upcoming mini-series. In my opinion, panels should always be moderated by someone who is a fan of whatever the subject happens to be. There was such a fun vibe and part of that was due to Kumail and part of that was that you really got a sense that creator Chris Carter, and stars David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi, really were happy to be back and to be in collaboration with each other again.

Pileggi remarked at one point that, and I’m paraphrasing, that it was so cool to see that not only have they maintained the original fans, but that the series has been able to attract a whole new set of younger fans.

Here are some cool and not so cool things we found out at the panel:

  1. The Lone Gunmen are returning.
  2. Dana Scully and Mulder are not together, at this point.
  3. Episode 1 and 6 are mythology and the four episodes in between, will be stand-alone.
  4. If Chris Carter is down, David Duchovny would do more episodes of The X-Files.
  5. Mitch Pileggi believes in extraterrestrial life, Chris Carter wants to believe and David Duchovny is a Belieber.

After a some conversation they opened up the floor to questions, my favorite being from a young woman, Laura, originally from the Philippines. She asks:

“…..Why are Scully and Mulder not together, and don’t you think they’ve earned it after 20 years, to be together?  That’s for Chris Carter” to which Chris Carter replied “I was going under a bridge, we were doing some sound on the show and under the bridge was written above us, Life Has Many Bumps In The Road, I think Mulder and Scully have hit one of those” to which Laura came back with “But don’t you think they’re stronger than that?” Get it girl!!!

If you aren’t already excited you will be after this panel and thank you to YouTuber, Mel Medfor sharing this panel so that all of y’all could experience it!

The X-Files premieres January 2016!
