In just a couple more weeks, we’ll finally be back in the full swing of the Fall Season over on The CW. We’ll have Supergirl, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow all returning with gigantic brand new seasons, involving huge characters and thrilling storylines. The Flash is in it’s third season, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl both in their second, but the granddaddy of them all, the series that started it all and proved that the public was finally ready for a massive banquet of superhero related television — Arrow — is in it’s fifth season.
Where the first season was a rocky start, the second and third seasons were great, with the fourth season it’s roughest to date. This was due mostly to a desire to change the tone a bit to match the critical acclaim of their sister show, The Flash, which had a brighter aesthetic and more positive outlook in general. However, it seems that they’ve learned that doesn’t necessarily work for Arrow. Arrow fights from the shadows with a weapon designed to strike in silence and kill the target.
However, Arrow has released a trailer for this upcoming season which will see Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) recruiting and teaching a new team of vigilantes how to pick up the mask and fight for their city. That being said, this trailer gives us the feeling that maybe, just maybe, Arrow has finally figured out how to balance a darker aesthetic with hints of a brighter tone. There’s more fun in this trailer, with the team lightly recognizing how hard, no-nonsense and tough their leader, Oliver Queen can be.
Along with that, we also get quick glimpses of Wild Dog being a bad ass, Curtis Holt struggling to be a hero, a statue erected to Black Canary, and a good look at Walking Dead actor, Chad L. Coleman as gangster Tobias Church, an original character for the series.
