We have two new shows from Syfy coming our way on Friday, January 16th. Well, one brand new – 12 Monkeys and one is in it’s sophomore season – Helix. This will be a fun two hour block of television on Friday nights for a while.
Syfy released a new teaser for 12 Monkeys today called ‘Time Travel.’ Since they named the teaser, I have a feeling that we will be seeing a few more 30 second spots as we get closer to the 16th.
12 Monkeys is a time-traveling, post apocalyptic thriller based on the acclaimed 1995 film of the same name from the mastermind of mind-bendiness, Terry Gilliam. The movie is a good one, a great one even. Ahead of it’s time (oh, I swear I didn’t mean that pun. I’m not that clever).
Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys did well back in the 90s. There was nothing like it. I’m curious how it would do today where we live in a world of dystopian-driven books, films and images. I, myself, am a huge sucker (and a spender) for all things dystopian. I don’t think my brain, positive life outlook and inner strength appreciate that addiction but a lot of studios and writers do.

Based on the 1995 film directed by Terry Gilliam, “12 Monkeys” follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who is on a mission to eradicate the source of a deadly plague. The series stars Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull, Noah Bean, and Kirk Acevedo. Additional cast members include Tom Noonan as the enigmatic face of the Army of the 12 Monkeys, and Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines, a dangerous and unstable mental patient.
