Today is Star Trek Day which celebrates the date September 8th, 1966, when the first episode of Star Trek TOS premiered. To honor the 54th anniversary, Star Trek is hosting a 24-hour virtual event including several panels.
During the Star Trek: Discovery panel, Sonequa Martin-Green presented the first trailer for the upcoming third season and it is a ride! The visual and sound effects are stunning, the story is strong and the humor is priceless.
At the end of Star Trek: Discovery’s season two, Burnham (Martin-Green) and Discovery were hurled 930 years into the future by way of a wormhole and did not land at Terralysium. In the new trailer, we see that in the future they find themselves in, the Federation’s reputation is in tatters.
They arrive in the year 3188. An event called “The Burn” happened where the “galaxy took a hard left.” Burnham and the crew are separated from each other and come into contact with different factions. Now, Discovery’s crew must come together and rise to their new challenge of repairing the Federation.
A few notable moments from the trailer:
-Burnham’s laugh! It was so lovely to hear unabashed joy coming from the stoic Michael Burnham.
-David Ajala’s Cleveland Booker. This new character, Book, looks to be an amazing addition to the cast this season.
-Speaking of amazing additions to the cast, we get a glimpse of Adira and Gray (a Trill)!
-Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) kicking ass as always.
-The theme of this season: coming together in the face of adversity. It truly mirrors where our society is in 2020 and you could feel the hope in this trailer.
