A new Star Trek Beyond trailer was released today and in it we hear a song from the film’s soundtrack performed by Rihanna.

Most of the footage in this trailer is not new. In fact, very little is. What we do get is a Captain’s Log entry from Kirk where his voice is heavy with dread. In the log he states, “This is my last report as the captain of the starship Enterprise” and you can feel the weight of the threat the Federation is facing. There are also some quick new looks at Krall, Jaylah and some stunning imagery of the Enterprise. Noticeably and sadly absent are any appearances of the late Anton Yelchin’s Chekov. (I can’t believe I just had to write the “late Anton Yelchin” – it stings). Although, there’s a split second shot of the whole crew on the Enterprise bridge but that is all.

The music is very much like James Bond theme song but better than we’ve heard in a while from that franchise. The new Rihanna single, called Sledgehammer, fits perfectly into the trailer and actually did a better service to the trailer than the Beastie Boys’ Sabotage did for the first Star Trek Beyond trailer that had Trekkies far and wide up in arms. It’s very emotive and when you hear Kirk say, “Let’s make some noise,” you’ll be feeling all kinds of F**k yeah!
