What’s New on TV This Week (Feb 2 – 8)

Welcome to another edition of What’s New on TV. This week, a British TV show returns for its second season on American television. Get ready because things are about to get good.

Pokémon Horizons is returning to Netflix for its second season. Even though Canadian TV has been enjoying the second season of Wild Cards since January, it’s making its American debut this week. And a Gloria Gaynor biopic premieres on Lifetime.

Some exciting series, including one created by Laverne Cox, are premiering this week. Here’s what’s new on TV for February 2-8.

NEW ON TV, FEBRUARY 2-8

February 2 – Funny Woman

Gemma Arterton’s Funny Woman returns to the US for its second season on PBS. The four-episode-long season focuses on Sophie Straw as she is offered a new opportunity in Hollywood. Season 2 will show Sophie as she aches for Dennis and her mother, finds herself involved in romance rumors and is confronted by a threatening revelation.

Funny Woman Season 2 premieres Sunday, February 2 at 10/9c on PBS.

February 5 – Love You to Death

After being diagnosed with heart cancer, Raúl reconnects with his childhood friend Marta, who has recently found out she is pregnant. A friendship that began when they were just kids might now lead to a relationship that changes their lives. Marta is afraid of commitment, while Raúl is looking for the love of his life. Joan Amargós and Verónica Echegui are the leads of Apple TV+’s newest series, Love You to Death.

Love You to Death premieres Wednesday, February 5 at Midnight/11c on Apple TV+.

February 5 – Prison Cell 211

On December 31, 2022, there was a riot in the state prison of Ciudad Juárez. Netflix’s newest series, Prison Cell 211, follows the story of what happened during that riot and the several inmates who were found dead afterward.

Prison Cell 211 premieres Wednesday, February 5 at 3/2 am on Netflix.

February 5 – Wild Cards

While Candian TV had the premiere of Wild Cards Season 2 in January, American viewers can now enjoy the season and Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Giannotti’s chemistry again. The first episode of the season finds Ellis trying to process Max’s betrayal after she put herself in danger to share information regarding his brother’s killer. As they work a new case, they must dive into a high-speed street racing ring.

Wild Cards Season 2 premieres Wednesday, February 5 at 8/7c on The CW.

February 6 – Clean Slate

Laverne Cox is back onscreen with a show she co-created. Prime Video’s Clean Slate follows the story of an old-school car wash owner who must change his way of thinking as his estranged child returns home as a proud trans woman named Desiree. As a comedy, the show situates father and daughter as roommates, forcing them to face new coming-of-age milestones. This includes Desiree flirting with a car wash employee.

Clean Slate premieres Thursday, February 6 at 3/2 am on Prime Video.

February 6 – Invincible

Since the beginning, Invincible has followed the life of Mark Grayson, the son of Omni-Man, as he develops his own superpowers. During Season 3, fans will continue to follow Mark’s story as he finds himself forced to confront his past and future. While he works on these challenges, he must find a way to protect everyone he loves.

Invincible Season 3 premieres Thursday, February 6 at 3/2 am on Prime Video.

February 6 – Sweet Magnolias

After the arguments that came between the three friends on Season 3, Sweet Magnolias Season 4 focuses on how they can repair this friendship and move on with the love they have for each other. In particular, the season will focus on how a storm disrupts the friends’ lives and how they navigate several holidays from Halloween to Christmas.

Sweet Magnolias Season 4 premieres Thursday, February 6 at 3/2 am on Netflix.

February 6 – Cassandra

Now that AI is a trending topic, Netflix’s new limited series, Cassandra, is adding its own twist to this technology. The show will center around a family that moves into a vintage smart home. The home is controlled by a virtual assistant focused on keeping the family home at all costs.

Cassandra premieres Thursday, February 6 at 3/2 am on Netflix.

February 7 – Newtopia

If breakups were done at terrible timing, Newtopia‘s breakup between Jae-yoon and Young-joo comes at the worst time. As a a military enlisted, Jae-yoon breaks up with Young-joo over a series of misunderstandings. However, shortly after the breakup, a zombie outbreak hits the world, and Young-joo must risk her life to find her ex after he is trapped in a Seoul skyscraper.

Newtopia premieres Friday, February 7 at 3/2 am on Prime Video.

February 7 – Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Pokémon fans will be happy to know Pokémon Horizons is returning to Netflix this week for its second season. This part of the show will focus on the search for Laqua as the heroes undergo Tera Training. While they take on Paldea’s Gym leaders, they continue on their journey to find the remaining Six Heroes.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series Season 2 premieres Friday, February 7 at 3/2 am on Netflix.

February 8 – I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story

Lifetime is releasing a new movie focusing on Gloria Gaynor’s life and career, I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story. The film will follow her career as she became one of the most popular Disco singers, including “I Will Survive.” It will also give an inside look into her marriage to her husband and manager. 

I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story premieres Saturday, February 8 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
