rings

The Ring hit theaters in 2002, The Ring Two hit theaters in early 2005, now the newest sequel will hit at the beginning of this year.  Rings has an all new trailer that brings the legend forward into the current time, taking pace 13 years after the original.

While this may not be considered a reboot, it certainly looks like it’s trying to do just that– reboot just a little bit in order to breath new life into the franchise. The original video is there, along with our beloved and oh so flexible Samara, and the dying a certain amount of time after watching is still in tact.  The creep factor is high, complete with rain falling up and a little nursery rhyme told by our little ghost.

Check out the official synopsis below.  I’m not entirely sure what they mean but having a movie within a movie.  Perhaps we will explore the entire world from inside the video.  That angle could actually make the movie stand on its own.  Although, Rings is sure to have a few throw away lines about the first 2 installments, making sure we all know this is in the same timeline but updated.

A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

Rings hits theaters on February 3, 2017.
