Can you feel that?
That’s us only one month out from the premiere of Marvel’s next big series on Netflix, Iron Fist. Thus far, we’ve really only seen one trailer and lots of promotional photographs; Marvel and Netflix are keeping this one close to the chest. Of course, we got the episode titles for most of them a couple weeks ago, but there’s not too much to glean from those either. It seems likely that, at some point, we’ll see something more, even if it’s just one more teaser trailer. Until then, we’ve got five new pictures to look at and enjoy.
In this first photo, we see actress Jessica Henwick in the role of Danny Rand’s best friend and confidante, Colleen Wing. She appears to be training to fight with swords here, something she is very adept at in the comics. It’s likely that we’ll see plenty of awesome sword play in this series.
This third picture is a little more telling of the Danny Rand story than the Iron Fist story. Quick background — Danny Rand disappeared to K’un L’un when he was just ten years old. It was there that he trained and became the Immortal Iron Fist before returning to our world to reclaim his family company, which had been taken over by the Meachum family. Harold Meachum, the head of the company, had killed Danny’s father right in front of him, and Danny wanted revenge.
In this picture, we see Harold’s two children, Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) and Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup). Danny stands at a mic stand, presumably giving a press conference to discuss his return to civilization and to discuss where he’s been. Or, as is most likely, to lie about where he’s been.
We can also assume that neither one of the Meachums are excited about his return as it means their shares of the company are now lessened by his sudden reappearance.
This fourth picture is kind of a big deal too. In it, we see actress Carrie-Anne Moss reprising her role as Jeri Hogarth and representing Danny Rand a hearing of some sort. What makes this important is two fold — well, maybe not important but certainly exciting to us comic dorks. In the comics, Jeryn Hogarth, a male, was Danny Rand’s right hand man and legal council. He played a role very similar to Edwin Jarvis in the Avengers or Foggy Nelson in Daredevil. So, here we see Carrie-Anne Moss’s Hogarth filling that role, which seems to indicate that she has history either with the Rand family or their company in general.
We can assume in this picture that this is most likely some sort of legal hearing to reinstate Danny Rand in his family’s corporation that was so violently taken from him.
Finally, in this fifth picture, we see Rosario Dawson in her role as Nurse Claire Temple. It’s unclear what her role in this series will be or how much we’ll see her, but it wouldn’t be a Netflix Marvel series without having her in it.
