New Overwatch Hero, Ana Amari, the Healing Sniper of Your Dreams

Overwatch Ana Amari

That’s right, I said HEALING SNIPER.  Just look at  Ana Amari, smirking with that familiar eye marking we recognize from a current character.  Of course, the eye marking is on the opposite eye of our justice loving Pharah.

Last week Blizzard dropped a set a schematics that looked suspiciously like a healing sniper rifle, a marriage of Mercy’s biotic healing technology and cold, hard sniping.  Shortly after that went live on North America Twitter and Facebook Overwatch accounts, a second, almost identical schematic went up on Overwatch Brazil’s accounts.  The only difference, besides the language, is one extra person was copied.  On the original, U.S. release J. Morrison and G. Reyes were the recipients of the plans, Soldier 76 and Reaper respectively.  On the Brazil transmission Morrison, Reyes and A. Amari were copied.

A. Amari, as in Fareeha Amari aka Pharah.  A founding member of Overwatch, Ana Amari was a decorated soldier, deadly sniper, loyal friend, and loving mother.   Many people, myself included, jumped to the conclusion A. Amari would be the next playable character.  Long thought dead it seemed an improbable possibility and the rifle was more than likely a replacement weapon for Mercy.

Blizzard put all of our curious souls out of their misery and announced that Ana Amari, mother of Pharah, is alive and will join the ranks of Overwatch as the next playable character.  For all those that guessed correctly, give yourself a pat on the back.

Watch her story below and grab some tissues.  If it doesn’t at least give you goosebumps than you have no soul.

Seriously, she can snipe and heal.  Her rifle will heal allies and damage enemies.  Did I mention she is an older lady, with grey hair?  She has wrinkles, is missing an eye, and has lived life.  How amazing is all of that.  I love everything about this character.

Ana is currently available to play on the Overwatch PTR so, if you have the PC version of the game, head on over to battle.net, download the PTR, and start playing.  For the rest of us not playing on PC you can watch the below videos.  One showcases how this amazing character will play.  The other is from Glemda Gaming Community which uploaded a lovely YouTube video showcasing all of Ana’s skins, emotes, sprays, poses, etc.  Enjoy!

From the Public Test Realm patch notes:

After being out of the fight for several years, one of Overwatch’s founding members is returning. Introducing Ana—a battle-scarred veteran who supports her teammates from a distance using a unique and highly specialized collection of weapons.

Ana’s primary weapon is her Biotic Rifle, which fires long-range darts that can restore the health of her allies or deal ongoing damage to her enemies. Meanwhile, her Biotic Grenade is perfect for a close-quarters clash, simultaneously healing teammates and injuring foes caught in its small area of effect. (Affected allies will also receive a temporary increase to all incoming healing, while affected enemies can’t be healed for a few moments.) And if the battle starts to get out of hand, Ana’s sidearm can fire a Sleep Dart, knocking her adversaries unconscious.

Plus, Ana’s ultimate ability, Nano Boost, empowers one of her teammates, granting faster movement, increased damage, and resistance to enemy attacks.
