This is an excellent week for Mortal Kombat fans. Not only are we getting a trailer tomorrow, but we also got a series of character posters today! These live-action posters from Warner Bros gives us a first look at some of the major characters we will see in the film.
This adaptation introduces an original character named Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a washed-up MMA fighter. Things seemed to have hit rock bottom, but then the glass floor shatters and his world is turned upside down (figuratively, of course) when Shang Tsung (Chin Han) sends the cryomancer warrior Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) to kill him. Cole has a special connection that links him to the world of Mortal Kombat and leads him to participate in a battle for the universe.

The Mortal Kombat posters look utterly fantastic. I am always a bit skeptical of film adaptations for video games. They can be excellent or a bit lackluster. The original franchise films are a part of my childhood and will always have a place in my heart, but I might have a new favorite from what I have seen for this new film. Not only are we going to get the blood-filled intense fight scenes we know from the games, but the movie industry as a whole has come so far. I can’t wait to see what Warner Bros brings to the table for this adaptation.
Mortal Kombat stars Tan, Han, Taslim, Hiroyuki Sanada, Mehcad Brooks, Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Ludi Lin, Max Huang, Josh Lawson and Sisi Stringer. Simon McQuoid is directing and James Wan is producing. The movie is based on a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham.
Mortal Kombat releases April 16, 2021, in theaters and will air on HBO Max for 30 days. Check out the posters below and let us know how excited you are to see this game adaptation come to life.
