His Dark Materials

In case you missed it, there is a new full-length trailer out of the HBO/BBC His Dark Materials. The series based on the trilogy by Philip Pullman that includes The Golden CompassThe Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. It looks really good, you guys!

The events seem to stick pretty closely to The Golden Compass. We don’t get a good look at the compass (alethiometer) itself, but what we do see is dark indeed. There are some good flashes of the stuff you’ve been waiting for in this trailer. We get a look at Lyra’s Pan as an ermine and a moth. And Iorek Byrneson the Panserbjørn – a highly intelligent armored polar bear.

His Dark Materials stars Dafne Keen as Lyra, James MacAvoy (Lord Asriel), Ruth Wilson (Marisa Coulter), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Lee Scoresby), Ian Gelder (Charles), James Cosmo (Farder Coram) and Ariyon Bakare (Lord Boreal).

Executive producing the show are Dan McCulloch, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner for Bad Wolf; Philip Pullman; Jack Thorne; Tom Hooper; Deborah Forte; Toby Emmerich and Carolyn Blackwood for New Line Cinema; and Ben Irving and Piers Wenger for BBC One. Jack Thorne adapted the novels for the series.

Watch the full-length trailer below.

His Dark Materials will premiere on HBO in the U.S. later this year.
