The new Syfy series, 12 Monkeys, premieres January 16 at 9 pm. For those few of you, and by few I mean younger than myself, who don’t remember, this new Syfy series is based on the amazing Terry Gilliam movie Twelve Monkeys from 1995 that starred Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis and Madeleine Stowe. Yes, they took a huge step by changing “Twelve” to “12.”
Snark aside, Twelve Monkeys was a groundbreaking and wonderful movie. I am truly looking forward to seeing what Syfy is going to do with the property.
So, basically, in the movie, Bruce Willis is sent back in time to try and stop a deadly plague (man, that guy likes time-traveling movies). It looks like the television series for Syfy is going to cover the same ground but in series form:
12 Monkeys follows the journey of a time traveler, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future. Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.
