New Clips and Trailer for THE DEFENDERS Will Make You Cheer

Ahead of next week’s release, there’s a new trailer for The Defenders, the next big Marvel show on Netflix. In fact, The Defenders is the series we’ve all been waiting for, the Avengers-style team up promised from the very beginning when Netflix first announced all of their shows. The series will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all finally running across each other’s paths to take on one single, solitary threat — Sigourney Weaver.

We’ve had a teaser and full trailer, released at San Diego Comic Con, so we haven’t seen much, but this new 90 second trailer gives us plenty more footage to get excited.

Perhaps one of the most cheer-worthy moments of the trailer is during the hallway fight when Luke Cage stands firm, unafraid, as the thugs open fire on him. He just deflects all the bullets while Danny Rand stands behind him, ready to leap into action and kick some ass. It carries definitive echoes of one of Marvel’s original superhero duos — The Heroes for Hire. In fact, there are a couple moments in the trailer, like Luke Cage badgering Danny Rand for how much he eats and then later telling him to “light it up” that make us wonder if they’re building to a later Heroes for Hire team-up for the duo.

Though we also can’t forget how badass it was to see Danny Rand shatter a sword with his Iron Fist. It’s nice to see Danny Rand actually being the Iron Fist.

Along with this trailer, we also have two clips that were released by Netflix.

In this first one, we see echoes of another now classic team-up for Marvel’s street level heroes — The Daughters of the Dragon, Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) and Misty Knight (Simone Missick). Released via twitter, we see Wing in the police precinct where Misty Knight is stationed. Knight questions Wing on an “unusual item” she was brought in with. Wing explains that it’s her katana, which Knight quickly dismisses — she knows what it is, though she can’t help but note to Wing that “it’s weird.”

We can see the dynamic between these two already starting — a healthy respect for each other even if there’s some mistrust and misunderstandings from the on set. While new seasons of each of the series are all expected, with Jessica Jones 2 already in production, we should all hope and pray that Netflix sees the opportunity and creates a Daughters of the Dragon series.

This next clip shows us just how Luke Cage (Mike Colter) was able to get out of prison so quickly — a very talented attorney shows up to help him. No, not the blind one who fights crime at night, his ex-partner and hopefully still BFF, Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson). Our guess here is that Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) asks a big favor of Foggy. After all, she saw how good he was in the hospital scene when he talked down two gang members in the ER, so she knows he can do this. At least that’s our best guess as to how he gets roped in.

The Daredevil twitter page has a clip featuring Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra talking to a man in a hood covering his face. She talks to him, calling him her old friend before taking the hood off to reveal Stick (Scott Glenn). It’s unclear when exactly in the series this takes place, but hearing her call Stick her “old friend,” makes you wonder just how old Stick is and how long he’s been at war with this woman.
