There are a lot of new books coming out every week. With New Release Radar, I’ll help you narrow down the week’s new book releases into the titles you should get excited about. This week, I have eight books to share, including a dramatic time loop story and the finale of the Crescent City series. Read on.
Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin
Enid has an obsession with space and a deep phobia of bald men. She tries not to let that stop her, navigating a complex life of dating, familial relationships and true crime podcasts. But when she falls into her first serious romantic relationship, her paranoia grows, leading her to confront the possibility that something is seriously wrong with herself.
Emily Austin’s new book release is hilarious and hopeful. Interesting Facts about Space addresses mental illness, dysfunctional families, queer dating and the flawed reality of being human.

A Quantum Love Story by Mike Chen
Neuroscientist Mariana Pineda ends up stuck in a time loop while grieving her best friend’s death. After a chance encounter with the mysterious Carter Cho, the two relive the same four days over and over. But as Carter’s memories of the loop start fading, Mariana realizes their only chance at happiness is to permanently break free from the cycle.
Mike Chen is the king of January releases. With a refreshing twist on time loops and a hint of romance, A Quantum Love Story is a great book to kick off the start of the year.
The Mayor of Maxwell Street by Avery Cunningham
Nelly Sawyer, a debutante from an elite Black family, secretly works as an investigative journalist in Jim Crow-era Chicago. She recruits Jay Shorey, a mysterious figure with ties to the underworld, to expose corruption in the city. As they navigate societal challenges, their collaboration sparks a love story amid the risks and complexities of 1920s America.

House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas
Unexpectedly transported to a new world, Bryce Quinlan yearns to return to Midgard and her family, friends and mate. Stranded and uncertain who to trust, she’s desperately trying to find her way home. Meanwhile, Hunt Athalar is trapped in the Asteri’s dungeons with no idea what happened to Bryce.
Book three in the Crescent City series could not have come sooner. House of Flame and Shadow takes the saga to new heights and has everything Sarah J. Maas fans have come to expect.
Yours From the Tower by Sally Nicholls
In 1896, best friends Tirzah, Sophia and Polly navigate life after boarding school. As Polly teaches in an orphanage, Sophia seeks a wealthy husband in London. Tirzah becomes an unpaid companion to her grandmother, their dreams and romances unfolding through a series of dramatic letters. These three young women — one industrious, one artful and one in exile — strive to find happiness and love in their distinct paths.

The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers
Violet Everly, the last child of a cursed lineage, faces the task of breaking the family curse that has taken generations. With 10 years to find her vanished mother or succumb to the curse, Violet navigates a magical underworld of power-hungry scholars, capricious gods and vengeful monsters. Alongside the enigmatic Aleksander, she races against time, uncovering the secrets of a city of stardust to unravel the mystery and free her family from centuries of torment.
If you loved The Ten Thousand Doors of January or anything by Erin Morgenstern, The City of Stardust is perfect for you. Georgia Summers’ debut is precisely the right kind of fantasy book I’ve been looking for.

The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland
Zara Jones believes in magic. Otherwise, she has to believe a serial killer murdered her sister. She’ll do whatever it takes to bring her sister back from the dead. Jude Wolf is cursed. She may be rich, but her soul is slowly dying, and monstrous creatures taunt her at night. Emery Bryne may be the solution to both girls’ problems. The daughter of a witch, she helps women in desperate situations — if they’re willing to sacrifice a piece of their souls. But as other magic users turn up dead, the girls must trust each other or wind up the next victims.
With the release date originally June 2023, I feel like I’ve been waiting for The Invocations forever. I loved Krystal Sutherland’s other book, House of Hollow, so I’m really excited about her new book release.
These Deadly Prophecies by Andrea Tang
Apprentice sorcerer Tabatha Zeng faces unexpected challenges when her famous fortuneteller boss, Sorcerer Solomon, predicts his own brutal death — which then comes true. Implicated in the murder investigation alongside Solomon’s son, Callum, the two team up to clear their names. But navigating a suspect list filled with the magical and well-connected isn’t easy, and soon Tabatha questions how much she can trust her new partner.
