The Bullet Swallower by Elizabeth Gonzalez James

In 1895, Antonio Sonoro, desperate in drought-ravaged Mexico, plans a train heist for his family’s survival. When the heist goes wrong, he sets out on a dangerous quest for revenge that jeopardizes both his life and his eternal soul. The Bullet Swallower is an ambitious new book release that takes on border politics, intergenerational trauma, and the legacies of racism and colonialism. Full of magical realism and morally gray anti-heroes, Elizabeth Gonzalez James created an incredible mash-up of the Western and the Homeric epic.

A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft

Niamh Ó Conchobhair never allowed herself to want anything. The magic that allows her to stitch emotions into fabric is also killing her, and she wants to provide her family with a better life before she runs out of time. Niamh jumps at the opportunity to design a royal wedding wardrobe in the neighboring kingdom of Avaland, but nothing is as she imagined. Political unrest among the working class and the reluctance of the groom, Prince Kit Carmine, threaten to ruin everything. As Niamh and Kit develop an unexpected bond, they face challenges when an anonymous columnist threatens to expose royal secrets unless Niamh helps. Running out of time in more ways than one, Niamh must confront a future she never dared to dream of and a love she deemed impossible.

Set in a Regency England-inspired fantasy world, A Fragile Enchantment is a romantic fantasy of manners. Allison Saft’s third novel is the perfect book to read by the fireplace on a cold winter night.

the cover of Into the Sunken City has a dark-skinned girl wearing a diving helmet. Water comes up to just below her eyes.

In the sinking city of Coconino, Jin Haldar is barely surviving after her father’s diving accident. A drifter named Bhili offers a tempting heist – a stash of gold in the sunken ruins of Las Vegas. Jin and her sister reluctantly join the diverse crew for a high-stakes heist involving crumbling ruins, sea beasts, and the mysterious João Silva. To survive, Jin must confront her past and dive back into the perilous underwater world she swore she’d never return to.

Dinesh Thiru’s debut novel combines fantasy and dystopia for a unique twist on Treasure Island. Into the Sunken City diversifies the original story, adding romance, a new world and even more adventure.
