There are a lot of new books coming out every week. With New Release Radar, I’ll help you narrow down the week’s new book releases into the titles you should get excited about. The next few weeks will be light as the year winds down, but I still have five great books to share this week. Read on!

New Book Releases For December 10

The Rules of Royalty by Cale Dietrich

Jamie Johnson’s quiet life is upended when he learns he’s the heir to the throne of Mitanor, thrusting him into a summer at his estranged father’s palace. Enter Erik Von Rosenborg, a sidelined northern prince tasked with tutoring Jamie in royal ways. As their lessons turn into a deep connection, both must choose between their growing feelings and the duty-bound paths their crowns demand.

The Rules of Royalty is a sweet story of friendship, love and the importance of found family. Cale Dietrich’s take on The Princess Diaries is a lighthearted rom com with just enough angst to keep the plot moving along.

What the Woods Took by Courtney Gould

The cover of What the Woods Took has a person's face blending into a forest of tall, shadowy trees. At the bottom, small figures stand in the woods.

When Devin Green is abducted and dumped in the Idaho wilderness with a group of teens, they’re told they’re part of an experimental therapy program. Together, they will reform their self-destructive behaviors through a grueling fifty-day hike. But when their counselors vanish and eerie phenomena plague the woods, survival becomes their only focus. As tensions rise and secrets unravel, the campers must confront both the monsters in the forest and the darkness within themselves if they hope to make it out alive.

Gripping, tense and dark are the perfect words to describe Courtney Gould’s new book release. Gould handles sensitive topics with nuance and care, and What the Woods Took is full of excellent character development and exploration of personal trauma.

A Monsoon Rising by Thea Guanzon

Alaric, a battle-hardened Shadowforged commander, and Talasyn, a defiant Lightweaver, are bound in a political marriage to unite their warring nations. Their alliance, however, is as fragile as can be expected between two sworn enemies. But a deeper threat looms: the Moonless Dark, a magical cataclysm only their combined powers can stop. As feelings ignite and betrayals surface, Alaric and Talasyn must decide whether to trust each other and risk their hearts for the fate of their world.

A Monsoon Rising is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2023’s The Hurricane Wars. Thea Guanzon’s sequel is full of more enemies-to-lovers romance, magic and adventure, all set in a Southeast-Asian inspired world.

I Made It Out of Clay by Beth Kander

The cover of I Made It Out of Clay has
a bright blue background with bold yellow. At the center, hands are shaping a mound of clay, from which a man in a casual outfit emerges.

Eve’s life is unraveling. She’s single, nearing 40, mourning her father’s death and dreading going to her sister’s wedding alone. Desperate, she summons a golem for protection. At first, it seems like the perfect solution – the golem is both protective and attractive. But as they head to the remote wedding venue, her magical companion’s devotion turns dangerously dark, threatening to upend everything.

Darkly funny and surprisingly sweet, I Made It Out Of Clay is a rom com turned disaster. Beth Kander’s new book release is also a study of grief and fear, making it a truly complex and intriguing read.

Custodians of Wonder by Eliot Stein

In Custodians of Wonder, Eliot Stein takes readers on a journey to meet the remarkable individuals safeguarding endangered cultural practices. From Japan’s secret soy sauce recipe and Italy’s rarest pasta to India’s mystical metal mirrors and Cuba’s cigar factory readers, Stein uncovers the stories of those keeping ancient rites alive. With stops at an Inca bridge master in Peru, a British beekeeper “telling the bees,” and a German tree with its own mailbox, Stein captures the beauty and urgency of preserving these traditions before they vanish forever.
