Two new Blade Runner 2049 posters were released Thursday.  They give us a bleak look at the future of the future.

The much anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott‘s 1982 neo-noir cult classic takes place 30 years after the original.  Same world.  Same Deckard.  I don’t think anyone expects Deckard’s future to be rosy, but it definitely looks rough

The Deckard (Harrison Ford) poster is an image similar to what we see in the teaser for the film.  Dusty and warm, Deckard walks among ruins with his gun drawn.  And, Deckard looks casual doesn’t he?  It definitely strikes me that he’s basically in jeans and a t-shirt.  Does anybody else think that’s weird?  All these images with Deckard in t-shirts!  Especially given the high design that the first film gave us, if he’s this casual that’s got to mean something, right?  Is it just that he’s out of the game, and being interrupted at home?  I’m intrigued!

The K poster, featuring Ryan Gosling‘s character, is much colder.  Gosling is covered up.  Half of his face is covered by his collar, and he’s got a fancy future car not totally unlike the vehicles we’re used to seeing in this world.  It’s a much slicker image than the one of Ford, but definitely not more optimistic.  It’s harsh, hazy, and there’s a light behind K that implies someone or something lurking behind.  Or, chasing?
