New Art Reveals Design and Backstory for Ultron and The Vision

Our pals over at Comic Book Movie have discovered some interesting character profiles over on Reddit for the much-anticipated Avengers sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s unclear what exactly the graphics will be used for, most likely some toys, but the write-ups give us some possible insight into two of the film’s most mysterious characters: the titular villain Ultron and The Vision.

First off, Ultron.

First discovered as a simple computer program hidden among the ruins of the Chitarui invasion of New York, the being known as Ultron soon completed its development into a sophisticated artificial intelligence after some experimentation by Tony Stark. Ultron’s first shocking ultimatum upon gaining consciousness was to declare the human race its enemy. Setting out to exterminate all life on the planet, the unstable and emotional Ultron seeks to upgrade its mechanical body to an ultimate, unstoppable form. With an army of robotic drones and the ability to enter and corrupt any computer network, Ultron will stop at nothing to see humanity wiped out.

Lots of interesting little details in that description. First of all, the program is initially alien in design, coming from the Chitauri, which puts to rest any theories that the Ultron program is related to Hank Pym. We also have confirmation that, like in the comics, Ultron is after creating an “…ultimate, unstoppable form” for his mechanical body. In the comics, he acquired an Adamantium body and eventually a Vibranium one, making him virtually unbreakable.

And, lastly, sounds like the entire world will have their hands full with Ultron entering any all computer networks. Looks like everyone will be living off the grid!
Next we have a write up on Vision.

Programmed by the combined geniuses of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner and imparted with the ability to fly, project intense energy beams and change the density of his form, the Vision has proved himself a worthy hero, aiding the Avengers in their struggle against the evil A.I. Ultron.

The biggest reveal here is that he is co-created by Tony Stark AND Bruce Banner. Up until now it’s been unclear how exactly the Vision came to be. In the comics, he was created by Ultron to help defeat the Avengers, but here it appears that Stark and Banner are making an attempt at some redemption for the monster they accidentally created.

Also, we hear Vision’s power set mentioned for the first time: “fly, project intense energy beams and change density of his form…” Again, we know that these are all powers he has in the comics, but it’s good to see them confirmed here. If we get to see Vision phase through a wall, there will be a collective scream of orgasmic pleasure from every nerd in the theatre.

Finally, we have some art work showing Vision phase through a metallic wall as well as some new electronic batons for Black Widow. So excited for this film.
