Entertainment Weekly posted the first snapshot of the Fisherman King (Djimon Hounsou) from the upcoming Aquaman movie.
This is the first look of a new species from the movie, that appear to be mermaid-merman-like. The photo features the Fisherman King standing with the Fisherman Queen (Natalia Safran) and the Princess (Sophia Forrest) to his left, and the King’s royal guard to the right. According to Entertainment Weekly, this photo is from a scene where King Orm (Patrick Wilson, not shown) asks for the Fisherman King’s assistance in his declaration of war on the surface world.
Producer Peter Safrans explains that after Atlantis fell, some of the kingdoms, like this one evolved. “This is one that evolved. This is a kingdom that’s primarily artistic and cerebral, with poets and philosophers.” There’s no doubt that the Fisherman King has the resources that King Orm needs, but does he have the same opinion of those of us who dwell on land?
Previously released photos have set up a possible battle between the Atlanteans on great white sharks and the Xebels on sea dragons. With this new photo, James Wan‘s water world vision is becoming more majestic. I’m pretty excited about this movie. It’s definitely something that we haven’t seen played out in live action. I’m interested to see the special effects, especially if there is an underwater battle.
Aquaman hits theaters December 21! Watch for the first trailer to be released at San Diego Comic Con!
