It’s a sad day, Scream fans. Neve Campbell, our beloved, indestructible scream queen, has announced that she will not be returning for the franchise’s sixth installment. Based on the initial report from Deadline, it seems that the reason behind her departure is related to salary.

In a press statement, Campbell said, “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” She continued by letting her fans know that she remained grateful for them.

“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

For 25 years, Campbell has been the face of the Scream franchise. No matter how many sadistic killers come after her character Sidney Prescott, she keeps surviving. She has been a Final Girl of epic proportions until now.

Even though Campbell has bowed out, fans will still be seeing plenty of familiar faces in Scream 6. All of the new class survivors from Scream 5 are confirmed to return. Additionally, Hayden Panettiere is reprising her role as Kirby from Scream 4.

The sixth movie does not yet have an official title; however, it will stab its way into theaters on March 31, 2023.
