It makes sense that we’re learning of Martha Kent’s casting at the same time as Jonathan Kent’s. Howell joins the ranks of actresses who’ve portrayed the Man of Steel’s adoptive mother. Phyllis Thaxter originally embodied the role in the 1978 Superman film. Since then, other actresses have included Eva Marie Saint, Diane Lane and Annette O’Toole.

Howell has few big credits to date, so this will definitely be an exciting role for her. She has most recently been seen in films such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Long Haul and Logan Lucky. Her television roles include appearances on The Resident and The Originals.

Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025. What do you think of the latest casting news? Let us know below, then keep an eye out for more updates.
