Welcome to May! This month brings final exams, end of course exams, and crunch time for teachers. It’s just a wet and rainy month for others (that extended winter didn’t do anyone any favors). Why not take a moment to stop, breathe, and chill on the couch with Netflix? This month comes with a lot of good options, but we’ve highlighted two that we think you shouldn’t miss:
Disney·Pixar’s Coco
Not just for the kids, Disney·Pixar‘s Coco is a beautiful story of family and tradition. This film is a gorgeous animated tale of Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez), his love of music, and his quest to be like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Upon taking Ernesto’s guitar from his mausoleum, Miguel finds himself, and his dog, in the Land of the Dead, where he learns about his family’s history and meets Ernesto. Miguel is up against the clock to return to the land of the living before sunrise, but he must also uncover the truth about why music is banned in his house. The movie also features the voice talents of Gael García Bernal, Alanna Ubach, Renée Victor, Jaime Camil, and Alfonso Arau, along with Edward James Olmos and Cheech Marin. Coco comes to Netflix on May 29th.
From Disney·Pixar:
Despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Hector (Gael García Bernal), the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story
Everyone needs a bit of history in their life. Go beyond the brief glimpse of the alternate history provided in an episode of Timeless of one of the best leading ladies of Hollywood of yore – watch Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, a documentary of Hedy Lamarr‘s life story told in her own words. Lamarr was the full package, beauty and brains, but the world never looked past her pretty face. Her inventions changed the world, but not many people know her name or what she did. Educate yourself and get inspired with Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story when it drops on Netflix on May 31st.
From Zeitgeist Films:
What do the most ravishingly beautiful actress of the 1930s and 40s and the inventor whose concepts were the basis of cell phone and bluetooth technology have in common? They are both Hedy Lamarr, the glamour icon whose ravishing visage was the inspiration for Snow White and Cat Woman and a technological trailblazer who perfected a secure radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes during WWII. Weaving interviews and clips with never-before-heard audio tapes of Hedy speaking on the record about her incredible life—from her beginnings as an Austrian Jewish emigre to her scandalous nude scene in the 1933 film Ecstasy to her glittering Hollywood life to her ground-breaking, but completely uncredited inventions to her latter years when she became a recluse, impoverished and almost forgotten—BOMBSHELL: THE HEDY LAMARR STORY brings to light the story of an unusual and accomplished woman, spurned as too beautiful to be smart, but a role model to this day.
