December. Holidays. A lot of time off work and out of school. Alleviate the stresses of dealing with your family by turning on Netflix! The new December lineup is here and it brings a lot to keep the kids and the adults occupied with the only foreseen arguments being which show to watch (and, possibly, the inevitable heated discussion over any cliffhanger or twist endings).
There are also several goodies leaving, so be sure to pay attention to the very last list below! Several shows will be going away this holiday season, so throw those on the top of the binge-list to catch them before it’s too late!
As far as the new releases to Netflix, here are a few of our suggestions:
…New Year’s Eve Countdown 2018
Netflix is continuing the tradition of allowing parents to trick their kids into thinking they stayed up to see the new year by having New Year’s Eve Countdown celebration specials. This year’s lineup includes children’s favorites All Hail King Julien, Beat Bugs, Larva, Pororo, Puffin Rock, Skylanders Academy, Trollhunters, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, and Word Party. All of the cartoons will be available on December 26th for you to preview before you sit the kids down for the New Year’s Eve Netflix party on the 31st.

Travelers, Season 2
https://youtu.be/WiWJG3JIW3k
Who doesn’t love a good time travel story? Travelers‘ second season drops on December 26th, after having already aired in Canada. Travelers takes a unique twist on time travel in that the consciousness of a person is the only part that travels back in time to a host body and “overwrites” the existing mind – think of recording over an existing VHS tape or cassette tape (do those references mean I’m old??) wherein the new fully replaces the old. To get around the ethics of taking over someone’s body, the scientists of the future search for death records that have a precisely known time of death and send the traveler back to mere moments before the death occurs. Are there mishaps? Occasionally, but the success rate is far higher than the failures. Travelers are sent in teams of five by the order of a director to perform a task or project to correct an issue or ensure something happens for the benefit of the future. Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger and Season 2, as announced in the ET Canada interview above, promises to answer questions without directly picking up from the last episode. Personally, I can’t wait!
Travelers stars Eric McCormack, MacKenzie Porter, and Nesta Cooper, and will arrive on Netflix on December 26, 2017.

Bill Nye Saves the World, Season 2
Bill Nye started in television to teach the world about science. Over the years, he has gotten political, but only because science has become part of the political discussion. Global warming, for instance, is a hot topic among elected officials and it is something that Nye used for Season 1 of Bill Nye Saves the World. It seems that, as the promo above states, the world still needs saving, so Bill Nye Saves the World is returning! The grown-up (not “adult version”, just more mature in comparison to the show we grew up watching) science talk show will arrive on Netflix December 29th.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2
If you did not enjoy the first volume, there is nothing I can say to make you watch Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. There just isn’t a way to convey to someone against the greatness that is Peter “Starlord” Quill (Chris Pratt) and his band of misfits that the sequel is worth a watch (or two, or three…). Sure, there are a few childishly crude jokes thrown into the mix, but Quill never really had a good role model growing up – he just had Yondu (Michael Rooker) and the Ravagers. And that band of misfits? Who can turn down a talking raccoon like Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his teeny buddy, the (re-growing) humanoid tree, Groot (Vin Diesel)?
Vol 2 starts with the Guardians handling a paid mission, but things go south when Rocket can’t keep his sticky fingers off the one thing they were supposed to protect. Their ship crashes as a result and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) splits up the crew to handle repairs and investigate a stranger’s claim of being Starlord’s father. Along the way, Drax (Dave Bautista) makes friends with their guide, Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Gamora’s sister-by-circumstance, Nebula (Karen Gillan), becomes an unlikey ally. There is plenty of humor interjected in the action-packed film, and it will keep you and your guests plenty entertained this holiday season! The Guardians come to Netflix on December 5th.
