The Punisher is coming back for a second season.  It, and Jessica Jones are the only surviving Marvel series left on Netflix after the hasty slaughter of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist last year.  Now The Punisher has a teaser and a release date.  The teaser is intense and the release date is very soon.

The teaser is shot in the shadows and it’s dark in tone .  Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) are the only people you see.  And, they both seems to be fully embracing their roles.  Castle sports his iconic skull vest, and Russo is jumping right into the villainy of Jigsaw (though he reportedly won’t be going by that name in the series).  Russo says “It’s like a bomb went off inside my mind, scattering all the pieces”.  We’re in the mind of each character.  We hear their inner monologues.  They don’t speak except for some unhinged screaming from Russo.  And, at the end we hear The Punisher say, “I’m not the one who dies, I’m the one who does the killing”.

Get ready for The Punisher’s next round.  It may very well be his last.  As Deadline reported on Thursday, most people are of the mind that this series and Jessica Jones will soon see their ends.  Let’s enjoy the carnage on the way out.

Former marine-turned-vigilante Frank Castle has been living a quiet life on the road until he suddenly becomes embroiled in the attempted murder of a young girl (Giorgia Whigham). As he is drawn into the mystery surrounding her and those in pursuit of the information she holds, Castle attracts a new target on his back as new and old enemies force him to confront whether he should accept his destiny and embrace a life as the Punisher.

The Punisher starts streaming on Netflix January 18.
