The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has a release date and five new images. Netflix set the premiere date for Friday August 30.
The series is a prequel to the 1982 film The Dark Crystal from Jim Henson and Frank Oz. And will take place many years before the film and has 10 episodes.
The series stays true to the original film by using puppets created by Jim Henson Co.’s Creature Shop. According to Variety, there is no CGI used in the series. The images are mostly of the Gelflings and the Skeksis in a very colorful and beautifully details sets.
The Geflling voices include Taron Egerton as Rian, Anya Taylor-Joy as Brea, and Nathalie Emmanuel as Deet. Caitriona Balfe, Natalie Dormer, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander also provide voices for Gelfling characters.
Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg are some of the voices for the Skeksis and Mystics.
Louis Leterrier directed the series. Executive producers are Leterrier, Halle Stanford, and Lisa Henson, CEO and President of The Jim Henson Company.
Here’s the official synopsis: “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”
