Fellow members of the Ton, we have some exciting news to share. The first official spin-off of Shondaland, Netflix and Julia Quinn‘s Bridgerton franchise, is nearly here. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has a new teaser and a save-the-date. The upcoming romance series takes place years before Bridgerton. It follows the love story between our favorite Queen and her King. The initial series is based on the novels by Quinn and is currently heading into its third season.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story centers around a young Queen Charlotte (India Ria Amarteifio) as she meets and falls in love with a young King George III (Corey Mylchreest). Their romance and union will spark a change in England and send it into a societal shift, creating the world we’ve come to love within the Bridgerton franchise. The new trailer gives us brief glimpses of them meeting, falling in love, Charlotte becoming Queen and the drama involved.

The story looks like it will be told in flashbacks as Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh, and Ruth Gemmell will be reprising their roles from the original series. Almost as if the three lifelong friends are just reminiscing back to their youth. And no ones youth is free of drama, love and the sexual tension Bridgerton is known for. This is so much sweeter because we know that in the end, Charlotte and George end up together. And maybe, just maybe, the series will give us some insight in what is happening between seasons two and three of the flagship series.

Alongside Amarteifio, Mylchreest, Rosheuvel, Andoh and Gemmell, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will also star Aresema Thomas as a Young Lady Danbury, Michelle Fairley, Sam Clemmett, Freddie Dennis, Richard Cunningham, Tunji Kasim, Rob Maloney, Cyril Nri and Hugh Sachs.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is set to hit Netflix on May 4, 2023. Check out the official teaser below. Are you excited for a bit of Bridgerton backstory? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
