After two well-hyped Oscar seasons, director Damien Chazelle is making the jump to Netflix.
Friday, Variety reported that the three time Academy Award nominee Chazelle would be teaming with the digital streaming service to distribute his upcoming musical drama series, The Eddy.
Variety reports the series takes place in modern day Paris. “The Eddy revolves around a club, its owner, the house band, and the chaotic community that surrounds them”. The article cites Erik Barmack, the VP of International Originals in talking about the series. The Netflix Executive says the project will feature French actors and crew members. It is very much an international co-production.
Chazelle will executive produce the series as well direct the first two episodes of the eight installment story. Jack Thorne, who (according to The Hollywood Reporter) is currently working on the script for Star Wars Episode IX, wrote the series.
THR quotes Chazelle, who is coming off a busy awards season supporting La La Land, “I’ve always dreamed of shooting in Paris, so I’m doubly excited to be teaming up with Jack… on this story, and thrilled that we found a home for it at Netflix”.
Variety reports that Netflix invested 2 billion dollars in original programming.
The release date for The Eddy is currently unknown. Stay tuned for more details.
