Heartstopper fans – today is the day! After almost a month of waiting for Netflix to announce that just one season of their adaptation of Alice Oseman‘s graphic novels wouldn’t be enough, we finally have news on their fate. And it’s good! So, so good. Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) will be with us for two more seasons! Two seasons to fully dive into and explore this charming tale of love, acceptance and friendship.

The first season of Heartstopper introduced us to Nick and Charlie and their fall into love. It’s adorable, charming and downright swoon-worthy. But this isn’t just all about hearts and flowers. The series also introduces heavier themes closely related to coming out and the struggle to be accepted. And while Nick and Charlie are center stage for most of the season, we also get the chance to explore the relationships and challenges of their friends. We got the opportunity to watch Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) make their relationship public.

But what we have been really excited to see further explored in future seasons of Hearstopper is the relationship between Tao (William Gao) and Elle (Yasmin Finney). The two best friends definitely have feelings for each other, but the fear of change seems to be keeping them from exploring them. Hopefully, in season two, they get the chance to set aside those fears and explore a possible relationship.

For those of us who have read Oseman’s original graphic novel, we know that there is so much the adaptation has left to explore. And knowing Netflix, there is so much they can change going forward. They aren’t afraid to mix things up from page to screen. I’d love to see them explore more of the background characters. Oseman has a mini-comic called The Teachers, where she explores the relationship between teachers Nathan and Youseff. Being able to see this play out live would be everything we have been wishing for.

No announcement has been made about when we can expect to see season two or three, but we have time. It’s time to head back and binge season one all over again! Let us know just how excited you are in the comments below and on social media!
